The FDI Optical Fiber Test Case is a small, durable unit, custom built to the customer's specifications. As a calibration device, the test case can be built to include splices at specified distances and losses for periodic calibration, maintenance or demonstration of OTDR units. When used during OTDR testing, the test case serves as a dead zone eliminator to allow the user to measure beginning (launch) segments of fiber systems. This function permits accurate determination of pigtail connection quality and splice loss. Standard fiber test cases are fabricated with one kilometer of optical fiber, however special designs of up to 40 kilometers are available.
